My personal RX-8 will be taking some time off the road to become my next long-term project. I will be swapping in a 13B-REW from a 3rd generation FD RX-7. The RX-8 Renesis engine is high revving and smooth but leaves a lot to be desired in reliability and actual horsepower. The turbocharged FD engines are proven to be reliable and can be built to any power level.
Update 9/15/2026: Parts Selection - I will be using the Rad Potential REW swap engine mount and a Haltech ECU. For the turbo, I have chosen the Pulsar S363 T51R Mod, T4 divided with the 1.0 back end. This turbo should offer a good blend of low and top end and should match the street port well. This should get me to my 450hp goal easily yet still be responsive. A custom top mount turbo manifold will be fabricated to locate the turbo within the RX-8 chassis. I plan to produce the manifold in a full turbo kit or by itself for anyone else interested in an REW swap for their RX-8. A single Pulsar 60mm wastegate will be used.
